Top of the world: Photos from Mt. Evans
The Mountain GoatsI took my first trip of the new season to Summit Lake and to theSummit of Mount Evans today, June 13th. What a day! Not a cloud inthe sky. There is still a lot of snow up there. Summit Lake isfrozen over. The first place I went was to Summit Lake. After I collected mygear I began to walk over towards the ridge on the far side. When Igot to the stone building at the far end of the parking lot, I wassurprised to see snow inside piled deep and then I was even moresuprised when a Mountain Goat appeared at the door from inside.Luckily I had my camera at the ready. I took several shots of Summit Lake and the goats. Some of theshots are from about the same position as ones I shot early lastSeptember. Quite a contrast. Lots of ice and snow around the lake.I posted thephotos from last September on Yourhub last year. From the lake I ventured up to the Summit. I gathered my gear andheaded to the west end of the parking lot. I saw two mountain sheepmaking there way across a ridge. I caught several shots of theMountain Sheep with the snow capped rockies in the background. Later I started back to the car when I spotted more Mountain Goatsaround the old stone resturant that was destroyed by a propaneexplosion many moons ago. I was able to capture several close-upsof the Mount Goats just behind the restroom area. I had a great day and I got some great photos. My photos are at theJoan R. Duncan Gallery at the Koelbel Library (Holly and Orchard)in Centennial through the month of June. My show is called "I ofColorado", Stephen Johnson Photography. Though the the photos Itook today won't be in the gallery there are a few from lastSeptember of Mount Evans and Summit Lake. My photography can also be seen at: www.stevej46photography.com .
